Great new artists at Pirats

The Marketplace Art Gallery reopened with works of Tani Thor, tinos Resident, Gracie Kendall and Moya Janus.
Gracie's theme is in SL the appearance of our avatars compared to our rl. What does it mean to us? Why do we have chosen it? Visit her 1000 Avatars Project in SL. She already made it to take photos of 2000 avatars and has recently published her 2nd book about the project. Her installation at Pirats touched my heart. I personally look of course much better rl than my avatar  ;)
Leda and Moya with the Swan
You know Moya Janus (Moya Patrick) from my blogpost about Malmaison Cannes and Moyaland. Moya shows at Pirats his own version of well known classic paintings. As usual smart and witty!

Exciting show at Nordan

At the weekend opened at the always interesting Nordan Gallery a new exhibition that is again worth a visit and made me a lot of fun.

Scottius Polke: Starfish Command
Just as I arrived I met Scottius Polke. We went together to his installation, a witty and great scripted work. By clicking on the seats on top of the tower a pump starts and spits out starfishes. Scott told me that Desdemona Enderfield helped him scripting. We had a cozy place to chat on top of the work and talked a bit about this work:
Scottius (scottius.polke): this is actually an older piece
Scottius (scottius.polke): but was only up for 2 weeks
Scottius (scottius.polke): once the starfish start shooting it's a lot of fun
Scottius (scottius.polke): the sounds are what do it for me
Quan Lavender: yes ;)
Scottius (scottius.polke): it slowly rotates around
Quan Lavender: nice view on the gallery
Scottius (scottius.polke): and it pelts it at times :D
Scottius (scottius.polke): the starfish die after a few seconds
Quan Lavender: Oh really
Scottius (scottius.polke): yes a lot of factors to consider
Quan Lavender: how do I get down? fall?
Scottius (scottius.polke): or a well-planned jump
Quan Lavender: sounds smarter :)
Scottius (scottius.polke): :D
Quan Lavender: thats so cool here :)
Scottius (scottius.polke): I'm so glad I had the opportunity to install this again
Quan Lavender: I understand that
Scottius (scottius.polke): it's a nice spot for it too, being near the wate
Scottius (scottius.polke): the starfish are in a holding tank below us
Scottius (scottius.polke): and then get sucked up wit the suction pump
Scottius (scottius.polke): and fired out
Scottius (scottius.polke): all safe of course ;)
Quan Lavender: haha
Quan Lavender: very safe
Quan Lavender: that was a NOT well planned flight  *hahaha
Scottius (scottius.polke): haha
Quan Lavender: you should admit, this is a visitors shooter ;)
Scottius (scottius.polke): hehe yes
Quan Lavender: can you guarantee that no living animals are harmed?
Scottius (scottius.polke): yes, but not so sure about virtual ones
Quan Lavender: the sounds are funny
Scottius (scottius.polke): :) that last one was from goofy
Scottius (scottius.polke): I always loved the Goofy goes skiing short
Scottius (scottius.polke): have you ever seen it?
Scottius (scottius.polke): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhyayeQ0Fug
Scottius (scottius.polke): here is the original, if you can view it
Scottius (scottius.polke): at 6:46 is the familiar sound
Quan Lavender: I am glad that you use starfishes and not jellyfish
Scottius (scottius.polke): hahahah yes
Scottius (scottius.polke): that would be unpleasant methinks
Quan Lavender: I always like your style which is comic inspired
Scottius (scottius.polke): :) thanks
Scottius (scottius.polke): I like to have fun with these
Scottius (scottius.polke): :))

Later I had a walk through the gallery.

Alzarin Goldflake: Deep Dark Dephts
Have you ever wanted to ride on a seahorse? You can do that on these delicate and beautiful animals here. Beautiful and magical!

Romy Nayar ...
... shows 2 works. In the first installation, we see a woman watching herself in a mirror. The other side shows that apparently she was a victim of violence. As all works of  Romy, that I know, it is beautiful, poetic and intense. The second work, Destroyer of Childhood, is just as nice, but humorous and playful.

Addition: After publishing this post I had a talk with Flora Nordenskiold, the owner and curator of Nordan. She told me that she found "Destroyer of Childhood" not humorous at all and meant to see violence against children in that work. I was thinking more about getting mature and reponsibility for the own doings. Again I saw that good art always allows more than one interpretation. I will go again to see and think about it.
Steven Venkman: Sentimental  /  Piedra Lubitsch – Self Portraits
In the annex and on the roof I found extraordinary and beautiful portraits of Steven Venkman and Piedra Lubitsch. From the roof you can now walk over the mountains to the last installation:

Robin Moore...
...built a tower, which looks already from afar very beautiful. It is placed very nicely into the landscape. Climbing up, I was amused by the funny details. But stable builds are looking differently ;) Reaching the top I got the receipt. One wrong click and everything was falling apart. But I did not give up and at the end I reached the final goal. Love is not easy ;)

Here is a machinima about the Relation Tower, done my ColeMarie Soleil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdmFTB4cgGo The wonderful music is "Imagine That" by Owsey feat. Coma (ColeMarie Soleil)
Don’t miss the exiting show at Nordan!

Today is the International Day for the elimination of violence against Women

Violence against women is a serious problem all over the world, which cannot be talked about enough. The Italian community in SL has taken the chance, to celebrate this day in SL on 14 sims with events and artwork. At every location you get more informations about the events and a HUD which helps you to tp to the other places. Sadly many events and places are only held in Italian. Let me point out some places, that found my special interest.
At Torno Kohime Foundation are shown artworks of several great Italian artists. Interesting I found the combination of 3D works and photos of them.
I really got a goose skin when I visited the prison. Each cell shows another form of violence. This place is worth a visit!
Nessumo Myo sells at Alaska Urban City his brilliant work ….., which I presented here. All sales will be completely donated to Amnesty International.
Shellina Winkler invited some international friends to show works about the serious topic. Take at the landing the black box and wear the Gallery HUD. The works of Alzarin Goldflake, Betty Tureaud, Juanita Deharo, Simoton Aquila, Soror, Nishi , Wizard Gynoid and of course Shellina Winkler.
Today at 1.30 PM is the official opening of the Show Shellina Winkler’s Knot Art Gallery!

The Most Beautiful Christmas Shop in SL has a Gift for You!

Already in Christmas mood? Or not yet? If you visit Patron you will be for sure! Eliza Wierwight is not only a great artist, but also one of the most skilled interior designers in SL. Her new Christmas trees and decorations are simply a dream.
Especially for you Eliza has created a wonderful wreath with blinking lights as gift. It has the same high quality as her other works. She said: “I don't believe in giving away anything than is less than you would sell.” You will love it! Here is a photo:
The Shop is placed on a beautiful sim, which is worth a walk. You will also find some of Eliza’s artworks.

A Beautiful and Dark Venice: Venexia

I do not fully understand why many have pleasure by doing role play. I like too much being myself as I would in the long term desire to play someone else. So I ask for understanding, if  I can report very little about rp. The new sim Venexia offers residents a vampire Role Play: „The sim is a gothic interpretation of Venice Italy built with Vampires in mind. We have a Unique Vampire Clan based Storyline…”
Taken by Betty Tureaud
What a Sim! A beautifully built Venice with incredibly realistic textures. Visitors take at the land area of a 3-day visitor's HUD. I also got a really helpful lag HUD, which I use often now. The HUD is especially needed at Venexia as the RP has started well. Here are some photos partly taken by Betty Tureaud.

Wear the visitors tag at the landing area and jump into the boat to tp to the sim.

Pol Jarvinen @ tKf

"xpression" is the name of the new, partly interactive show of Pol Jarvinen. As always I love the colours and I found some great quotes. The beautiful ambient sound is an essential part of the exhibition and creates a very relaxing atmosphere.

New Art Project: The Berlin Wall

I like this art project:

"The Berlin wall is known all over the world and not only a part of the German history, it's worldwide history. The western part of the wall  was full of graffitys, while the eastern part was a deadly zone for everyone.
Do you know the "Eastside Gallery" in Berlin? There you can see today parts of the Berlin wall, with great graffities.
Our idea:

SL artists texture their own part of the Berlin Wall.  These parts we will exhibit on all sims of Germany in 3D for 4 weeks. Mother of this idea is the CowParade.

Germany in 3D encourages every artist in sl to design a part of the wall! Each interested artist gets  a part of the wall from G3D full perm in the original size 2x4 meters. Design or texture the piece as you like it. You also can design 2 or 3 parts side by side as one object and link it.

The designed pieces will be exhibited on the G3D-Sims first for 4 weeks and later on we think about a gallery on G3D where the pieces are exhibited permanently.
Timetable: From now on you can get a part of the wall full perm here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bach/105/164/22

Please give your designed part back and name it with Berlin wall <avatar name> until the 19th of december 2011. (If you miss this date we unfortunately cannot exhibit your piece)
Please give your piece to Maike Hoorenbeek AND Gromit Mayo. Take care that your piece is COPY TRANS.

This is not a contest, it is an art exhibition.

We are looking forward to your pieces!

your Germany in 3D - Team
by Pol Jarvinen
You may not change the size of the wall part!
You agree that your piece will be exhibited on the G3D-Sims gratuitously with your name (sl or rl-name is your choice). G3D has the rights to document the whole action and to advetrise and to make pictures or machinimas where your piece can be seen."

First examples are to be seen here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Beethoven/231/162/22

Literature in pictures: Empyreal Dreams

Every time we read a poem or a story, our mind creates pictures. Remington Aries and Ariel Wingtips have put their images into scenes. Planned are 12 in total; 5 of them are ready and truly worth visiting. Hunters find hidden gifts.

Edward Lear: The owl and the Pussycat
The nonsence poem is about a cat and an owl who are going to be married. They get their ring from a pig, as every visitor will do.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge: The Rime of the ancient mariner

This is a ballad of a sailor and a sinking ship. I never have seen such realistic waves in SL. Alone that is worth seeing.

 Edgar Allan Poe: The Raven

One of the most famous stories of E.A. Poe. Almost everywhere appears the only word the raven constamtly says: Nevermore!

Victor Hugo: Les Miserables
An early novel of social criticism, famous through countless films and the musical. Beautifully captures the scene the bleak mood. But here, unlike the novel, one can reach for the stars.

Emily Bronte: The Bluebell
The romantic and sad poem that inspired the builders to this beautiful scene. Yearning for spring came up in me. Here is the poem:

The Bluebell is the sweetest flower
That waves in summer air:
Its blossoms have the mightiest power
To soothe my spirit's care.

There is a spell in purple heath
Too wildly, sadly dear;
The violet has a fragrant breath,
But fragrance will not cheer,

The trees are bare, the sun is cold,
And seldom, seldom seen;
The heavens have lost their zone of gold,
And earth her robe of green.

And ice upon the glancing stream
Has cast its sombre shade;
And distant hills and valleys seem
In frozen mist arrayed.

The Bluebell cannot charm me now,
The heath has lost its bloom;
The violets in the glen below,
They yield no sweet perfume.

But, though I mourn the sweet Bluebell,
'Tis better far away;
I know how fast my tears would swell
To see it smile to-day.

For, oh! when chill the sunbeams fall
Adown that dreary sky,
And gild yon dank and darkened wall
With transient brilliancy;

How do I weep, how do I pine
For the time of flowers to come,
And turn me from that fading shine,
To mourn the fields of home!

Beautiful Fashion for Charity: Meena

Yesterday was the fashion show of Meena, the newest line of Trill Zapatero. The fashion is inspired by Afghan costumes. Trill writes „The style of clothes is 'Afghanistan Bohemian'. It is a hybrid of traditional Afghan styles and western styles of clothes.  Traditional Afghan styles have a lot of variety due to the many ethnic groups represented in Afghanistan, as well as it’s historic place on the ancient silk road and the influences of the various cultures that have passed through this desert country. Tajik, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Kuchi nomad, Indian, Turkish and Persian styles are all influencing factors in the style of traditional Afghan clothes.”

After the show Trill rezzed the shop. The prices are more than reasonable and all sales are donated to RAWA, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. The shop is part of the Museum, which is worth a visit. Find my blog post and an interview with Trill here.
Of course I could not resist and bought some of the beautiful clothes. Today I played around and created some looks. The clothes are so nicely done!
